10-Day Tanzania Photographic Safari
This 10-day photographic safari is tailored for travelers who want more than just a safari — they want the perfect shot. With extended stays in Tanzania’s most scenic and wildlife-rich parks, professional guiding, and optimal timing for light and animal activity, this journey ensures you capture the very essence of Africa. The itinerary balances adventure and comfort, staying in midrange lodges and tented camps close to the action.
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where your Kitawa Safaris guide will welcome you and transfer you to your lodge in Arusha. Enjoy dinner, a short briefing on photography expectations, and a relaxing evening preparing for your journey.
Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, drive to Tarangire, a park loved by photographers for its massive baobab trees, elephant herds, and golden landscapes. Spend the afternoon on a slow-paced game drive focusing on composition and animal behavior. Sunset photography near the river ends the day perfectly. Overnight near Tarangire.
Day 3: Full Day in Tarangire
A full day to explore Tarangire’s wilderness. Your guide will help position the vehicle for optimal lighting and angles, ensuring great wildlife shots. Capture elephants bathing in the river or giraffes feeding under acacias. Return to camp for dinner and photo review.
Day 4: Tarangire – Lake Manyara
Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a paradise for bird photographers. Over 400 species thrive here, including flamingos and pelicans. Explore the lake’s reflective waters, forests, and tree-climbing lions. In the evening, transfer to Karatu for overnight.
Day 5: Karatu – Serengeti National Park (Central)
After breakfast, head to the Serengeti through the Ngorongoro highlands. Stop for landscape photography along the way. Enter the Serengeti and enjoy an en-route game drive capturing elephants, zebras, and predators. Overnight at a tented camp in central Serengeti.
Day 6: Full Day in Serengeti (Central Plains)
Dedicate the day to exploring and photographing the Serengeti’s wildlife in different light conditions. Focus on early-morning golden light and late-afternoon glow. Capture large herds, predator-prey action, and classic African horizons.
Day 7: Serengeti – Northern or Southern Zone (Seasonal)
Depending on the season, travel north (July–Oct) for the Great Migration crossings or south (Dec–Mar) for calving season. The full day is dedicated to wildlife photography, tracking herds and predators while minimizing rush — giving you time to frame each scene.
Day 8: Full Day in Serengeti (Migration Focus)
Another day of uninterrupted game drives. Your guide positions you for the best light, angles, and opportunities for dramatic shots — river crossings, big cats, and wide-angle scenes that define Africa’s wilderness.
Day 9: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After a relaxed morning shoot, drive toward Ngorongoro, stopping for scenic highland landscapes and Maasai village portraits (optional). Arrive at your lodge overlooking the crater and enjoy your final sunset photography session above the rim.
Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha / Departure
Early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater for a final game drive in this photogenic amphitheater of wildlife. Capture elephants framed by morning mist, lions on open plains, and reflections on the hippo pool. After lunch, return to Arusha for your departure.
