5-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Marangu Route

The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the most classic path to the Roof of Africa. It’s the only Kilimanjaro route offering hut accommodations and a relatively gentle ascent. This 5-day climb is perfect for trekkers seeking comfort, direct trails, and a rewarding summit experience.

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,870m) – Mandara Hut (2,720m)

After breakfast, drive from Moshi or Arusha to Marangu Gate for registration. Begin your trek through lush montane rainforest, spotting blue monkeys and exotic birds. Arrive at Mandara Hut for dinner and overnight.

Hiking time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 8 km | Habitat: Rainforest

Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Ascend through forest and into the moorland zone, with stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at Horombo Hut for a hot meal and rest.

Hiking time: 6–7 hours | Distance: 12 km | Habitat: Moorland

Day 3: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Climb gradually through alpine desert, passing the “Last Water Point.” The path is dry and open with spectacular views. Dinner and early rest at Kibo Hut in preparation for the summit push.

Hiking time: 6 hours | Distance: 10 km | Habitat: Alpine desert

Day 4: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Hut

Start around midnight for your summit attempt. Reach Gillman’s Point (5,685m) by sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa! Descend to Kibo for rest, then continue to Horombo for overnight.

Day 5: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Arusha/Moshi

Descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to your hotel.
