7-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is widely regarded as the most beautiful path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It begins on the western slopes and offers a gradual ascent through lush rainforest, moorland, and high alpine desert before joining the Machame Route. Day 1: Londorossi Gate (2,100m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)

Drive from Arusha or Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration. Begin your hike through the dense rainforest filled with birds and monkeys. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (“Big Tree”) Camp for dinner and overnight.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours | Distance: 6 km | Habitat: Rainforest

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

Leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone. Gentle ascent with views of the Shira Ridge and Plateau. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours | Distance: 8 km | Habitat: Moorland

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

Continue across the Shira Plateau with an easy walk and panoramic views of Kibo Peak. Dinner and overnight at Shira 2 Camp.

Day 4: Shira 2 – Lava Tower (4,600m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Climb up to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp. The varied altitude helps your body adapt to the mountain environment.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035m)

Climb the scenic Barranco Wall with stunning views of the glaciers above and valleys below. Short and rewarding day ending at Karanga Camp.

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Ascend steadily to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. Rest, eat early, and prepare for the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.

Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Begin your ascent around midnight, reaching Stella Point at sunrise and continuing to Uhuru Peak — Africa’s highest point! Celebrate your achievement before descending to Mweka Camp for rest.

Hiking time: 10–13 hours | Distance: 17 km | Habitat: Arctic summit zone

Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha/Moshi

Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
